project Experience

Beginning in 2007 I was asked to lead the design team to pursue a stainless cellar expansion project for New Belgium Brewing Company. The company I worked for at the time had a long working relationship with New Belgium but had not done a project for them in over six years. We were successful in winning the project and my first experience in the industry had begun. I was fortunate enough to be able to continue working on small and large projects for New Belgium and others over the next nine years. In 2016 I launched my own company, Arete Inspired, PLLC, specializing in efficient layouts for alcohol production and improving your alcohol and malting processes. Experience with floors, drains, utilities and equipment helps you expand your production and/or retail facility to become more efficient while purchasing less square footage to produce your target goals. If you are a design firm needing consulting on process implementation and efficient equipment layouts for your alcohol client we are here to help. A few select projects are highlighted below.

I consider New Belgium Brewing Co. the place where I cut my teeth in the craft brewing industry. The company I used to work for, Neenan Archistruction, had been working with NBB since 1995 and in 2008 I was asked to lead the design team to design their next cellar expansion, C2X. After that project I continued working on various projects until 2014 including a canning line expansion, methane storage balloon, reconfiguration of their labs, more cellar expansions and many other small projects.

Goldspot Brewing Company located at 4970 Lowell Blvd. in Denver was the first full brewery that I designed. The system is a seven barrel combi-unit brewhouse from ABE manufacturing and same size fermentation. The 2,000 square foot facility is in the Regis University neighborhood, stop by if you're in the area and enjoy one of their truly local Colorado inspired beers.

Tallgrass Brewing company                               manhattan, ks

In 2014 we had the opportunity to design another complete brewery, this one was for Tallgrass Brewing Co. in Manhattan, KS. Jeff, the owner, was a home brewer that started his brewery in 2007 with a 15-barrel system and outgrew the space seven years later. After finding a screaming deal on an abandoned 56,000 square foot former Verizon call center office building, we began the design transforming it into a regional craft brewery. The existing structure height dictated what we were able to do but Jeff wanted to be able to produce 20,000 barrels at start up and grow to 100,000 barrels without expanding. This facility is very efficiently designed with a 50-barrel four-vessel brewhouse. The cellar has room to expand and new state of the art CIP system, separator, pasteurizer and packaging lines helped them in 2015 produce 21,800 barrels.

C squared ciders                                                       denver, co

Located at 2875 Blake Street in the River North Arts District (RiNo) of Denver,   C Squared Ciders opened their doors in 2014. Part of a collaborative with Bierstadt Lager and The Rackhouse Pub, this unique project took a 20,000 square foot former paper storage warehouse and added a new mezzanine built over a portion of the building as the restaurant and serving food from The Rackhouse Pub. Patrons can enjoy great pub fair while overlooking working craft beer and craft cider production on the floor below.
